Selling vintage clothing online in the UK: eBay, Etsy and your own shop

Checked against eBay, Etsy, Vinted and Depop help pages on

Artifactly helps UK vintage clothing sellers list one-off pieces on eBay, Etsy, Shopify and WooCommerce from a single listing. It is not for you yet if most of your sales are on Vinted or Depop: Vinted is copy and paste only for now, and Depop is not supported. The AI also leaves sizes and measurements to you.

Who is Artifactly for, and who is it not for yet?

It suits vintage clothing sellers whose sales come through eBay, Etsy or their own Shopify or WooCommerce shop. It does not suit sellers whose main marketplace is Vinted or Depop, yet.

Artifactly's direct connections are eBay, Etsy, Shopify and WooCommerce. If your rails sell mostly through those four, one listing reaches all of them. If your stock lives on the second-hand fashion apps, the connections you need are not here yet.

Selling clothing alongside homeware or furniture? The AI and the specialist marketplace list were written for that stock, so see the pages for vintage homeware sellers and vintage furniture sellers, or browse all seller types.

How do I list one-off vintage pieces faster, measurements included?

Photograph the piece, let the AI draft the title, description and condition notes, then type the size and measurements into the fashion fields yourself, because the AI does not fill them in.

The AI uses Google's Gemini with instructions written by working antique and vintage dealers. From your photos and notes it drafts a title, a description with a history section, a category and condition notes, and you edit it. Those instructions cover antiques and vintage in general; none is specialised for fashion, so check what the draft says about fabric, cut and era.

A routine for a rail of stock

  1. Measure each piece flat and write the measurements on its tag.
  2. Photograph the front, back, label, any fault and the fabric close up. AI background removal can tidy a cluttered backdrop.
  3. Add the photos and a line of notes (era, source, any repair), let the AI draft, then type in the size and measurements.
  4. Publish to eBay, Etsy, Shopify or WooCommerce in one go, and copy the Ready-to-List version into Vinted if you sell there.

Moving from another cross-lister? The spreadsheet import recognises exports from Vendoo, Crosslist, Nembol and others, and bulk edit changes the category, status or price of up to 500 products at a time.

Can I sell on eBay, Etsy and my own shop from one listing?

Yes. One product record in Artifactly publishes to eBay, Etsy, Shopify and WooCommerce, at one shared price, with the title cut to each site's limit.

What each direct connection needs before Artifactly can publish
MarketplaceWhat it needsTitle and photos
eBayeBay business policies for postage, payment and returns; a category (searched or suggested). Artifactly lists any required item specifics that are missingTitle cut to 80 characters; eBay allows up to 24 pictures
EtsyA price, an Etsy category, and a processing profile and shipping profile set up in your Etsy shopTitle cut to 140 characters; Artifactly sends up to 10 photos and up to 13 tags (Etsy's limits)
ShopifyA connected Shopify shopPublished to your shop
WooCommerceA connected WooCommerce shopPublished to your shop

Artifactly keeps one price for every marketplace, so you cannot charge more on one site to cover its fees. Titles are shortened rather than rewritten, so put the label, the garment and the era first. Sales on eBay or Etsy are picked up about every 5 minutes, and when the last one sells the other listings come down. That is a short gap, not zero. Our guide to cross listing between eBay and Etsy goes through the two sites step by step.

Does Artifactly work with Vinted and Depop?

Partly for Vinted and not at all for Depop. Artifactly prepares a Vinted-ready listing that you copy in, but it cannot publish to Vinted or see Vinted sales yet, and Depop is not supported.

Vinted

The product form has a Vinted category picker, and Copy All copies the prepared listing for you to paste into Vinted. The direct connection is coming soon, waiting for Vinted's API. Until then Artifactly cannot see a Vinted sale, so you mark it sold by hand, and that takes it down from eBay, Etsy, Shopify and WooCommerce.

Can the same piece sit on Vinted and eBay at once? We have not checked Vinted's rules on that, so read them first. On eBay, listings cannot contain links to sites outside eBay, and you cannot mention the same or related items for sale outside eBay. So never write "also on my Vinted" in an eBay description. eBay also allows only one fixed-price listing of an identical item at a time.

Depop

Depop is not supported in any form: no direct connection, no Ready-to-List copy. If Depop is your main shop, a tool that connects to it will serve you better today. Vendoo's UK FAQ lists Depop alongside eBay, Etsy, Whatnot and Facebook Marketplace.

What counts as vintage on Etsy?

On Etsy, vintage means at least 20 years old. Etsy does not allow reselling, apart from handpicked items such as vintage pieces over 20 years old.

Etsy's vintage policy sets the 20-year line, its reselling page rules out modern stock bought to sell on, and Etsy may ask how you sourced and dated a piece, and for photos.

Which clothing Etsy accepts, and what it will not take as proof of age
The pieceAllowed on Etsy? What will not prove its age
A garment at least 20 years old that you handpickedYes, as vintageBuying it at an estate or garage sale; a relative having owned it; another seller listing the same item
A modern high-street piece you bought to sell onNo, that counts as resellingNothing makes it eligible; its age is the problem
A piece that looks old but that you have not datedNot until you can show it is at least 20 years oldThe same three: an estate or garage sale, a relative, another listing

So note how you dated each piece while it is in front of you: the label, care tag, fastenings, construction. Artifactly sends Etsy's "when was it made" answer, so know what yours rests on.

What do eBay, Etsy, Vinted and Depop charge for clothes?

On a £100 order with postage included, eBay takes £12.65 from a business seller in clothes and Etsy takes £11.18 plus a 0.20 USD listing fee. Vinted charges sellers nothing; Depop charges payment processing but no selling fee.

eBay UK, private seller (fees page)No final value fee; 300 free listings a month, then 35p eachNo final value fee

Depop UK (help page)No selling fee; payment processing 2.9% + £0.30. The page carries no date, so check it before you rely on thisCheck Depop's page

Some Etsy fees carry VAT, and eBay's clothes rate is higher than its 10.9% for antiques and collectables. Fees change, so check the linked pages before you set prices.

On tax, buying clothes to resell is trading, and past the £1,000 trading allowance you must tell HMRC (HMRC's guidance). eBay and Etsy report sellers with 30 or more sales or about £1,700 a year, but a report does not by itself mean tax is owed.

What Artifactly does not do for you yet

It does not publish to Vinted or Depop, fill in sizes or measurements, or track what each piece cost you. The full list for a clothing seller:

  • No direct Vinted connection yet: copy and paste only, and Vinted sales are marked sold by hand. The direct connection is waiting for Vinted's API.
  • No Depop, Grailed, Vestiaire Collective, Whatnot, Mercari, TikTok Shop or Amazon.
  • The AI does not fill in sizes or measurements, and it has no fashion-specialised prompt. Check every draft.
  • One price for every marketplace. You cannot set a higher price on Etsy than on eBay.
  • Sales on eBay and Etsy are picked up about every 5 minutes, not the moment they happen.
  • No cost price or profit tracking, and no record of which rail, box or shelf a piece is on.
  • The Content Engine (on The Showroom) makes Instagram, Facebook, X and LinkedIn posts that you download and post yourself.
  • Plans are limited by product count (250 on The Curator, 500 on The Dealer, unlimited on The Showroom), and Ready-to-List, including the Vinted copies, starts on The Dealer.

If those gaps do not rule it out, the plans and prices are on one page. Selling mostly through eBay? See the page for eBay resellers. Selling antiques too? See our antique dealer software page.

Frequently asked questions

Does the AI work out the size and measurements of a garment?

No. The AI drafts the title, description, category and condition notes, but sizes and measurements are yours to fill in: clothing or shoe size as free text, and pit-to-pit, length, waist, inseam and rise in centimetres.

Can Artifactly post my listings to Vinted?

Not directly yet. Artifactly prepares a Vinted-ready listing that you copy with Copy All and paste into Vinted. The direct connection is coming soon, waiting for Vinted's API, so for now a Vinted sale is marked sold in Artifactly by hand.

Does Artifactly support Depop?

No, not even as a copy and paste listing. If Depop is where most of your clothing sells, a tool that connects to Depop will suit you better today.

What happens when a piece sells on eBay or Etsy?

Artifactly checks eBay and Etsy for sales about every 5 minutes. When the last one sells, the eBay listing is ended, the Etsy listing removed, the Shopify product archived and the WooCommerce product set to draft. A sale on Vinted, at a fair or in person is marked sold by hand.

Do I need to tell HMRC about vintage clothing sales?

Buying clothes to sell on, from car boots or charity shops for example, is trading, and past the £1,000 trading allowance in a tax year you must tell HMRC. Selling your own unwanted clothes probably means no Income Tax. eBay and Etsy report sellers with 30 or more sales or about £1,700 a year, but a report does not by itself mean tax is owed.

How much does Artifactly cost?
