List an antique: title, AI description and price

6:56 · Watch on YouTube

Upload Item starts a new piece: choose where it will be sold, write the title and description by typing or dictating, and set the price.

It shows how eBay's 80-character title limit is handled, AI Auto-Fill with its sources, Verify Price, a link to eBay's sold listings, and the Google Shopping fields.

What you need: Works on every plan. AI Auto-Fill counts towards your monthly AI allowance.

About this video: The screens are the real Artifactly app, recorded on a demo shop with made-up stock. The voice is computer-generated.

Questions this video answers

How do I add a new item to Artifactly?

This video starts a new piece with Upload Item, the button at the top of every page. When you are happy with the piece, Save Product at the bottom saves it. When you save, the ones you chose are marked ready to send, and nothing goes out until you press SYNC on the piece in Inventory Control.

What happens when my title is longer than eBay's 80 characters?

When yours is longer, the line under it shows exactly what eBay will get, shortened at a whole word. Etsy and your website still get the full title.

How does AI Auto-Fill work and can I trust it?

It searches the web for the piece, then fills the empty boxes on the form from your words and what it found. If it read sources, the fields it filled about the maker, era, origin and material are tagged Check sources. Either way, check them before you save.

0:00Choosing where to sell

This video starts a new piece with Upload Item, the button at the top of every page. It covers the top of the window: where the piece will be sold, its title, its description and its price. First, Marketplace Selection. Primary Store is your own website shop: Shopify or WooCommerce. Press one to choose it, and press it again to take it off. Under it are the additional marketplaces: eBay, Etsy, Vinted, Vinterior, Google Merchant and the rest. Press each one you want. Select All picks every one, and Clear All takes them all off. Choosing a marketplace here does not put anything on sale. When you save, the ones you chose are marked ready to send, and nothing goes out until you press SYNC on the piece in Inventory Control.

0:59Title and eBay's 80 characters

Next, the title, the name buyers see. Type it in, or press Dictate and say it out loud. Dictate works best in Chrome or Edge; press Stop when you have finished. eBay allows eighty characters in a title. When yours is longer, the line under it shows exactly what eBay will get, shortened at a whole word. Etsy and your website still get the full title.

1:32Description, dictation and AI

Below is the Product Description, the full write up. Dictate here adds what you say to the end of the text already in the box, and the number beside it counts the characters. Regenerate AI writes a fresh description from the piece's first photo and its details, and replaces the text in the box. It needs a photo first, so it is shown in video nine, with the photos. Once the description has a few words, a green button appears: AI Auto-Fill All Fields from Description. It searches the web for the piece, then fills the empty boxes on the form from your words and what it found. It never changes your price. It can take a minute, so we will start it now and come back to it.

2:35Formatting and preview

Under it, Formatting Tips shows how to lay out a description that reads well on every marketplace: an opening paragraph, the key features, the dimensions, the condition and the history, kept under five thousand characters. Preview Marketplace Description opens a preview of the text as buyers will see it, with headings and bullet points laid out. Press it again to close it.

3:03SKU and price

On the right is Pricing and SKU. Staff SKU is your own stock number. Leave it empty and one is made for you when you save, starting with the SKU Prefix from your Business Profile. Unit Price is the asking price in pounds. Verify Price, just above it, searches eBay with the title on its own, to find pieces like this one. The Market Intelligence box shows the middle price and the usual range, and says plainly whether these are sold prices or asking prices. Asking prices are what sellers hope for, not what pieces sold for. Other marketplaces are not included. See sold prices on eBay opens eBay's own search for sold pieces like this, in a new tab, so you can see what really sold and for how much.

3:56Shopify type and vendor

Shopify Product Type or Category sorts the piece in your shop. Pick one from the list, or type your own in the box under it. The Catalog Checkup on the Command Room looks for it too. Shopify Vendor starts as your business name. Change it if the piece should show a different seller name in your shop.

4:18Google Shopping fields

Next, Google Merchant and Top Listing Optimization. MPN is a maker's part number, and GTIN is a barcode number. Both go to Google Shopping, and the barcode also goes to Shopify. Most antiques have neither: leave them empty, and Google is told there is none. Shipping Label is kept with the piece, and is shown in Quick Copy on the Marketplaces page. Meta Title Override and Meta Description Override change what search engines show for this piece in your Shopify shop. Left empty, Shopify uses the title and the start of the description. Primary Image Alt Text describes the first photo; left empty, the title is used. Sub-Category narrows the category, for example sideboards. Material Search Tag is a material word buyers search for, such as solid oak. Product Tags are search words for the marketplaces that use tags, with a comma between each one.

5:28AI Auto-Fill: sources and price guide

Now back to AI Auto-Fill. When it has finished, a box under the button says what the fill was based on. If it read sources, the fields it filled about the maker, era, origin and material are tagged Check sources. If it found no sources, they are tagged Not verified. Either way, check them before you save. Sources lists every page it read, and the searches it ran. Dealer and marketplace pages are sellers' claims, so check anything that matters before you rely on it. Price guide shows eBay prices for comparable pieces, found by searching eBay with the title, and it names the search it made and the listings it used. It is a suggestion for you only. It is never put into your price, and never shown to buyers. Here is one of those tagged fields, further down the form, so you can see what to look for. Everything else it filled is plain, ready for you to check.

6:32Save or Cancel

When you are happy with the piece, Save Product at the bottom saves it. We will press Cancel instead. Cancel closes the window without saving the piece, and keeps what you typed as a draft for next time. The next video carries on down the same window: the sizes, where the piece is kept, and its antique details.
